What is open access?

According to the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), open access means that "a document can be freely accessed in the public network domain, and any user can read, download, copy, deliver, print, search, and hyperlink the document. And create an index for it to be used as input data for the software or for any other legal purposes. When users utilize this document, they are not subject to financial, legal or technical restrictions. They only need to maintain the integrity of the document when accessing it. The sole restriction on its reproduction and transmission, or the sole role of copyright, should be to grant the author the right to control the integrity of their work and ensure its accurate acceptance and citation." To achieve this goal, the Budapest Open Access Pilot Program mainly proposes the following two approaches: · Open Access Journals (also known as "Gold Open Access"). Price is an obstacle to access. Therefore, these new-generation journals will no longer charge subscription or access fees. They will adopt other ways to ensure expenses. For instance, foundations and government organizations that provide funds for scientific research, donations established by disciplines or associations, and even those borne by researchers themselves. Database open access (also known as "green open access"). Scholars need some auxiliary tools to preserve their published journal papers in open electronic libraries. This behavior is usually called self-archiving. When it can be shared with other resource libraries, the database can meet this requirement and take measures to ensure permanent preservation. In this way, scholars in any place and any field, including those without higher education institutions, All can enjoy the right to access the OA knowledge base.

Editing process

This journal operates a strict peer review process. In most cases, this is a single-blind assessment, with at least two independent reviewers, followed by the final accept/reject decision of the editor-in-chief, or another academic editor approved by the editor-in-chief. The chief editor is responsible for the academic quality of the publishing process, including admission decisions, approval of guest editors and special issues, as well as new members of the editorial board. Pre-check

Pre-check

After submission, this check is initially evaluated by the chief editor: · The suitability of the manuscript for the journal/section/special issue; · The author's qualifications and background; · Reject manuscripts of obviously poor quality. Academic editors, that is, when the chief editor submits regularly, or when guest editors offer opinions on special issues, or when there is a conflict of interest among the members of the editorial board, will be notified to submit and invited to review and recommend reviewers.

Peer review

For most journals, this process is single-blind, meaning that the author does not know the identity of the reviewer, but the reviewer knows the identity of the author. Some journals conduct double-blind peer review. At least two review reports should be collected for each submitted article. During the pre-review period, academic editors can put forward suggestions from reviewers. Alternatively, the editorial staff of this journal will use qualified members of the editorial board, qualified reviewers in our database, or determine new reviewers for relevant articles through online searches.

The following checks apply to all reviewers:

They have no conflict of interest with the author, including whether they have published together in the past five years. They hold doctoral degrees (with some exceptions, such as in medicine); They must have the latest publications in the field of the submitted documents; They have not been invited to review any manuscripts of this journal recently. To assist academic editors, the staff of this journal handle all communications with reviewers, authors and external editors. However, academic editors can check the status of their manuscripts and the identities of the reviewers at any time. Reviewers have two weeks to write their comments. For the review of revised manuscripts, reviewers are required to submit reports within three days. In both cases, the extension can be granted as required. Papers can only be accepted for publication by academic editors. Employed staff members of this journal can only reject papers: if they are allowed to accept papers, it will create a clear conflict of interest because their salaries are paid by the APC under the acceptance terms. This journal opto adopt an open peer review approach, which means that authors can choose to publish review reports and their responses to published papers (commonly referred to as public reports). In addition, if the review has been published, the reviewer can choose to sign their report. In this case, the reviewer's name will be displayed in the review report (referred to as open identity). The default option is for reviewers to remain anonymous. For unpublished reports, both the reviewer and the author must select this option. If the article is rejected, no detailed information will be released. The advantage of open peer review is that it can enhance the transparency of the review process and provide interested readers with more information about the paper. We encourage authors to choose open review.

Editorial decision

After peer review, the decision to accept the manuscript is made by the academic editor (the chief editor, guest editor or other appropriate member of the editorial board). When making editorial decisions, we hope that academic editors will check the following: · The suitability of selected reviewers; The sufficiency of the reviewers' comments and the authors' responses; The overall scientific quality of the article. The editor can choose to accept or reject, request the author to make revisions, and ask other reviewers to comment. If there is suspicion that the paper may contain plagiarism, the editorial department will use the industry-standard iThenticate software for inspection. Reviewers offer suggestions, and the chief editor is free to oppose their viewpoints. If they do so for the benefit of the author, they should defend their decision. Editorial independence is of great significance. This journal will not interfere with editorial decisions. In particular, without the consent of the academic editor, no papers should be published. The staff of this journal do not recommend that the academic editor accept or reject the articles.

Adjustment

If only minor revisions are recommended, authors are usually required to modify their papers before submitting them for external editing. After the author makes revisions, the article may or may not be sent to the reviewers, depending on whether the reviewers request to view the revised version and academic editing. Except in special circumstances, we allow a maximum of two major revisions for each manuscript. This journal processes all manuscripts, including language editing, copy editing and XML conversion. Language editing is carried out by professional English editors. In a few cases where extensive editing or formatting is required, we charge the author an additional fee (with the author's prior approval). Authors can also freely use other English editing services or consult colleagues whose native language is English. The latter is our first choice.

Publication standards and guidelines

This journal adheres to the following guidelines and standards:

ICMJE: Medical-related journals follow the recommendations of the International Board of Medical Journal Editors. This guide comprehensively covers all aspects of editing, from how to manage journals to detailed information on peer review and handling complaints. Most of the suggestions are not targeted at medical journals, and all journals follow them. This CONSORT statement includes reports of randomized controlled trials. We encourage authors to verify their work against lists and flowcharts and upload it along with their submissions. TOP encompasses the transparency and openness of research reports. Our journal aims to achieve level 1 or 2 in all aspects of TOP. The specific requirements vary from journal to journal and can be obtained from the editorial department. PRISMA covers systematic reviews and meta-analyses. It is recommended that the author fill in the list and flowchart and include them in the submission. ARRIVE contains guidelines for reporting in vivo experiments. It is suggested that authors verify their work against the list and include it along with the submitted content. During the final decision-making period, compliance with the above standards and guidelines will be considered, and the author should clearly state any differences. We suggest that authors emphasize relevant guidelines in their submissions.

Regarding retraction

This journal attaches great importance to the standardization of academic activities and the completeness of academic achievement records, and strives to ensure that academic papers retain traceable and unchanging historical records after publication. However, for individual non-standard phenomena or the author's unintentional mistakes in the manuscript, even after careful review by the editor, it is very difficult to detect them one by one. Therefore, correcting academic records is sometimes very necessary. The decision to change the record is of great significance. The publisher will take different measures based on the situation of the article, generally in the following forms: 1. 2. Correct (errors in layout or content) 3. Undo 4. The removal of the above measures is all aimed at correcting the article and reminding readers, rather than punishing the author. For any intentional or unintentional irregularities in the articles published in a journal, the editors of the journal have the responsibility to supervise and review them. The review process should involve both the authors and the reviewers. The editor will follow the retraction guidelines of this journal and other acceptable academic principles to select the best solution for handling the issue. If the author voluntarily requests to take measures, the author will not need to pay any additional fees for them. If the measures taken (such as retraction) were not initiated by the author or were merely the author's unilateral actions before an agreement was reached between the two parties, the publisher is not required to compensate the author for any economic losses.
